As promised the famous Hebden Bridge Duck Races are back and this year they are going

Totally Quackers!

We are going to run our ever popular main duck and business team duck races PLUS a schools competition and, new for 2021, a quirky picture/video competition for the public at large.

Each with fantastic prizes!

With the COVID situation as it is we do not think we will be able to run the races as a public event as we have done in the past; we doubt we will be able to have the crowds of cheering supporters lining the river banks.  So we are relocating to a private, and definitely quirky, site deep in the surrounding Pennines where we can have a COVID safe event.  Ticket sales will be entirely online.

But no one need miss any of the fun.  We will film the races and stream them online for everyone to enjoy.

Prize winners will be contacted individually and we will put the winning ticket numbers with the films of the races online from 3PM Easter Monday, 5th April 2021.

With all that in mind, and from a town voted one of the quirkiest in the UK, we hope that our totally quackers online fun will be just as enjoyable as our previous riverside events, albeit in a very different way.

We will be posting teasers as race day approaches so make sure you keep a watch out both here and on social media for clues as to what to expect.

Not long to wait for the races

The business duck race

The business race has teams of red, green and blue ducks and the first duck home from each team is a winner. When you buy business race tickets you choose which team you want to support and you will be allocated a numbered duck in that team.  Each business duck race ticket costs £10.

You can buy tickets by clicking this multicoloured duck .     Multicoloured duck icon (2021-02-15)

Window posters showing which team a business has chosen to support will be sent out on request.

While primarily aimed at businesses, private individuals are more than welcome to take part.

Buying duck tickets helps others in the community

We know that part of the fun of supporting the duck races is wondering whether your duck will win a prize. But the real purpose of the event is to raise money to help others.  All profits go to the Rotary Club of Hebden Bridge Trust Fund (registered charity number 513898) which gives grants to local, national and international good causes.

Since 2007 the Trust has awarded grants of just over £460,000 and is just £40,000 away from having awarding a half a million Pounds in grants.  With your support we can boost the Trust’s funds and make a substantial contribution to reaching that milestone.

Schools competition

Despite the lock down, and the need for the majority of children to home school, local schools and nurseries have still accepted the challenge to take part in the event. Normally they would make large, or small, duck related models and artwork which would then be displayed in local shop and cafe windows where the public can view them and vote for their favourite.

This year the children will be collectively doing artwork online using the totally quackers theme.  Artwork will then be displayed and voted for online.

To bring some colour and life back to the local shops and cafes, when permitted, we will be asking the local establishments to display printed versions of the artwork in their windows.

The competition will be divided into different categories with certificates and £100 cash prizes for the winning schools and nurseries.

Your Totally Quackers photographs and videos

One of the advantages of having an online event this year is that it has encouraged us to try some new things.  This year we will welcome photographic and video contributions from yourselves which we will be proud to feature on this website and on our social media pages. The best of the entries will be featured online and the best of the best will win a mystery prize.

All you have to do is create a totally quackers themed design in any material or format you like and send us a picture and/or video of your work.

You might for instance stage and film your own totally quackers race with totally quackers ducks swirling round a bath, falling from a height, being blown with straws across the grass or sliding down the stairs. Come up with an idea, choose your best 10 second video clip of it and send it to us.
